How to Prevent Periodontal DiseaseDecember 31, 2022 1:56 pm
At Ryan Dental, we don’t just want to treat your dental problems—we also want to help you avoid them in the first place! It gives us great joy to empower our patients to properly look after their smiles. Periodontal disease, or gum disease, is one of the most common issues we see in our patients. Here are a few tips for how you can avoid it:
- Stick to a Healthy Oral Care Routine
- Rinse with Mouthwash
- Visit Your Dentist Every Six Months
One of the best ways to prevent periodontal disease is to simply maintain healthy habits with your brushing and flossing. As tempting as it may be to forget about flossing or to skip a brushing session or two, brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing once a day can help immensely in promoting healthy gums.
In addition to using fluoride toothpaste and dental floss, consider adding some mouthwash to your at-home oral hygiene routine. While rinsing with mouthwash won’t replace the need to brush or floss, it’s another level of protection that can help remove food particles and bacteria left in your mouth. There are many mouthwash products out there designed specifically to fight gum disease!
Your dentist will be able to spot the warning signs of gum disease before you do. That’s why you should make sure to visit your dentist every six months for routine checkups so they can detect issues early and handle them before they grow into bigger problems.
