We can help you determine if a custom night guard is the right treatment option for your unique situation.
Contact UsHow are custom night guards made?
To create a custom fit, we will need to take digital impressions of your smile, which involves running a scanner over the top, bottom, and sides of the teeth. The scanner will instantly capture thousands of high-quality images that are used to create a digital model of your teeth, which is then used to create your custom night guard. About a week or two later, we will have you come back in to try on your custom night guard to ensure it fits properly. After any necessary adjustments are made, you are free to take your new oral appliance home with you and use it right away.
How should I take care of my night guard?
Every time you take your nightguard out, make sure to rinse it off with warm (not hot) water and place it back in its container. Keeping your night guard out of reach of children and pets will also help ensure that your night guard lasts for as long as possible. You will want to brush your night guard with a small amount of toothpaste or soak the nightguard in hydrogen peroxide to kill off bacteria. Washing the container it stays in is important as well. If you ever notice your night guard is cracked or has holes in it, we will be happy to make a new one for you.
Should I get a custom night guard or one-size-fits-all?
One-size nightguards can be found in pharmacies or ordered online. If you grind your teeth on very rare occasions, like during periodic times of stress, a store-bought night guard can serve the purpose of protecting your smile occasionally. However, if you know that bruxism is a condition that regularly affects your life, we highly recommend investing in a custom night guard. The custom fit of our nightguards helps them to feel more comfortable, so patients are more likely to wear them. They are also made of a durable yet smooth plastic material, so patients can continue wearing their night guards for many years.
